BCC UK is the exclusive distributor of THE EARTH COLLECTION® in the UK and Ireland. A division of Austral Yarns Limited (Registered in England No 1013244), the company’s yarn business, Charles E Dickinson and Co, was originally founded over 100 years ago and is highly respected in the textile trade and has long been a major force in the supply of textiles within the United Kingdom. Since its foundation in 1903 when the company was involved in the sale of cotton yarns into Yorkshire for blazer and duffel cloths, a process of evolution and continuous development has taken place. Austral Yarns Limited has worked in all sectors of the British textile industry, supplying raw materials for fashion clothing, carpets, furnishings, woven suitings, schoolwear, defence, police, airlines, automotive, medical and many others. They are proud to work with the major players in these fields. No stranger to environmental issues, the company has sold yarns made from re-generated cotton for many years and also offers a number of yarns with the Oeko-Tex certificate (free from harmful substances such as Azo dyestuffs). It was therefore a natural progression to move from yarns into the finished garments. Whilst the yarn business continues, clothing is now seen as the area for major expansion. THE EARTH COLLECTION® is already a well-established and strong brand in Europe, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand and is the brainchild of co-directors JP Jensen and Hanne Nielsen based in Hong Kong. The manufacturing facilities are based mainly in China and the jewellery production mainly in the Philippines where production is carried out in people’s homes bringing much needed income to poor villages. Currently there are in excess of 400 outlets worldwide with that figure growing steadily each month. Since the idea was first established in the UK in October 2001, in excess of thirty five outlets for THE EARTH COLLECTION® have been established. There are two collections per year covering Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter selling ‘environmentally friendly clothes for environmentally friendly people’. The clothes and accessories are produced ‘with respect for the environment’ with the idea that everyone is contributing just a little to: ‘Keep our beautiful planet a nice place to live. By wearing THE EARTH COLLECTION® you show you care and that you have taken a step towards a better tomorrow’. Substantial clothing stocks are held in Yorkshire by the company as the exclusive distributors for the United Kingdom. Any new franchisee is selected with great care and becomes part of THE EARTH COLLECTION® ‘family’. In addition, there is a very close connection and co-operation with other European distributors. An THE EARTH COLLECTION® shop is friendly and cosy, offering superb clothing at excellent prices. It should be the sort of place where people buy one outfit and then come back and build up a collection of clothing which can be worn for almost all occasions. It is perfectly possible for someone to buy one item in Sydney, St Tropez or Copenhagen and match up with other garments in the UK or Ireland. This is a very special range where the entire family can wear THE EARTH COLLECTION®.
